2013 $1000 Scholarship Winners


Carly Reiter

Carley Reiter
Madison Academic High School

Carley Reiter, a senior at Madison Academic High School, is the recipient of a $1000 scholarship based on her excellent credentials and commitment to community service. Carley will attend the University of Memphis at Lambuth and plans to become a neonatal nurse practitioner. In addition to maintaining a 4.0 average, Carley excels in forensics and is president of the Forensics Team. She has won numerous awards in storytelling and duo interpretation. She is a volunteer with Special Needs Baseball, and, she states that working with special needs children has helped her understand that everyone is special and has an important place in the world. Carley's references highlighted her leadership skills and her kindness to others.


Spencer Lim

Spencer Lim
Madison Academic High School

Spencer Lim, also a senior at Madison Academic, is the recipient of a $1000 scholarship. Spencer plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and major in communications. He intends to use his degree to benefit the community, just as his stepmother (also a communications major) has done while working with students at Liberty Technology High School. Spencer was vice-president of both his sophomore and junior class and is a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club and is on the staff of Madison's student newspaper. Spencer is a volunteer with RIFA and at Elmcroft Assisted Living Facility. He states that helping people in need is a "great and humbling experience." Spencer's references note his leadership, creativity, sense of humor, and intellectual curiosity. "He seeks to make all students feel not only accepted but also wanted."



Maclin Williamson

Maclin Williamson
Trinity Christian Academy

Maclin Williamson is a senior at Trinity Christian Academy and has been awarded a $1000 scholarship. Maclin will attend Union University as a pre-med major. His goal is to become an audiologist so that he can help children with hearing problems, just as his own audiologist helped him. He states that he wants to "shine the light of Christ into their lives because I know the black hole of hearing loss." Maclin's pastor served as one of his references and stated that "Maclin demonstrates a character at his young age that any of us would aspire to as followers of Jesus Christ."

 

2013 $250 Community Service Award Winner

Hannah McBroom

Hannah McBroom

Hannah McBroom is the recipient of a $250 community service award provided by the Sam Bomar Memorial Scholarship Fund. Hannah is a senior at Trinity Christian Academy. She intends to major in education at Bethel University and plans to become a math teacher and soccer coach. In addition to her academic and sports achievements, Hannah is very active in her church and in the Chrysalis Community. She states that she would like to impact the world in any way that she can, whether on the soccer field, in the classroom, or on the mission field. Hannah's references emphasized her moral character, her authenticity, and her sweet Christian spirit.
